I have been lucky, my 3rd gen iPod battery lasted from the summer of 2003 to about 2 days ago. I searched around for iPod batteries, and found www.iFixit.com. This site sells tools, parts and has guides (with photos) for fixing just about anything Apple has made portable in the past 7 years. You can still get ac Adapters, Airport cards, iPod hard drives, and more. Unlike other Apple part sites, iFixit will tell you what tools you need to go along with the repair, and the parts are a reasonable price.

As I have been working on my programming projects, I have found a need for text editors that color the syntax. This not only makes it easy to identify what I am looking at, but colored text helps me to keep my source code in a clean, formatted, and easy to read form.

Using OS X, there are several different options. BBedit is one well known program, or the free version textwrangler. While both programs are nice, I just need some thing simple and easy to use. After trying a few different apps, I came across Smultron, by Peter Borg.

It has a simple interface, yet has language localizations, support for many different scripting and programming languages, unicode support and many other features. Best of all, unlike other text editors for programming, Smultron has a small memory footprint.

Over the past few weeks I have noticed that my G4 Powerbook was slowing down. Searches using Spotlight were a bit sluggish. I also wanted to remove old programs that I no longer needed or apps I hadn’t used in a long time. There are programs like AppZapper that aide in software uninstalls, but AppZapper costs money. After a little searching, I found AppDelete. AppDelete may not be as fancy as AppZapper, however it still deletes the apps and is free. To optimize the system, clean out the Spotlight index, and do other system maintaince I searched and found OnyX. OnyX allows users to clean up their system, change User Interface settings, and view logs (among other things). In a few minutes I had Spotlight reindexing my system, now Spotlight is much quicker. I also have more space on my system after deleteing caches and removing old apps.
