Batman

Like so many other Americans this past weekend, I saw “The Dark Knight” in movie theaters. This will be a blog entry is going to be a little rant on what I liked and didn’t like about the movie.

First I have to say I liked the music score, it was paced well and matched the mood of the film. I also like how the writers tried to show how the character were human, by having them lie. Gorden lies and fakes his death, batman lies, Bruce Wayne lies… hey Gotham isnt a perfect place to live in,and people lie to each other just like real life.
Heath Ledger did a great job a creating a darker Joker. Finally watchers get to see a more twisted side, rather than a clown running around with a dumb bag of tricks. Another interesting aspectof the film is the theme of escalation. The Joker exists because of Batman, and Batman imitators spring up because they are inspired by Batman, all of which becomes worse as batman gets more attention. I also liked the use of game theory when Joker plays a game with the two boats.

As for things I didn’t like, the hype. The film was all hyped up as a film that would make you poop your pants. Dont get me wrong it was good, but I didn’t poop my pants. The actors did a great job, but it still is an action flick that really isnt stretching their abilities. I wish critics and others would just let the film speak for itself. Stop telling me it is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
Two-Face died, WTF? You build up the character through the movie and then you kill him in a quick fashion. Batman is supposed to capture the villain, and then send them to the vacation spot known as Arkham Asylum. Why introduce an important character to only kill them off in a short time? Where will the rogue gallery be, the Gotham City morgue? Rachel Dawes dying was a little off. She, as well as Alfred, acts as a guide to Bruce Wayne. She helped steer Bruce on the straight and narrow, she inspired him to do what is right. To kill her off just didn’t make a lot of sense to me.
Finally the Joker wasn’t much of a joker… Sure, there were some funny moments, like when he made the pencil disappear, or when he tries to fix his hair when meeting Rachel Dawes. The Joker really didnt have any standout funny lines or even some really witty remarks. There werent any speechesor comments, one-liners that really made me think “wow this guy is a sick twisted freak that is damn funny”
Well that is my rant, I hope you enjoyed the movie
